When we create a backpack, we don't want compromises. We want it to last for years, be resistant to water and abrasion, look great, and at the same time have the smallest possible ecological footprint. That's why we use the material ECOPAK™ by Challenge Sailcloth – one of the most advanced textile materials today.
What is ECOPAK™
ECOPAK™ is a multi-layer laminated material developed by Challenge Outdoor. It is designed for demanding conditions – from the ocean to the urban jungle. Each layer has its purpose:
- Outer fabric made of 400D recycled polyester – high resistance to abrasion and tearing, excellent color fastness.
- Inner recycled film (0.5 mil) – water barrier, the backpack stays dry even in rain.
- C0 DWR (without fluorocarbons) – ecological water-repellent surface treatment.
Thanks to lamination, the material does not absorb water like ordinary fabrics, remains light, non-absorbent, and keeps its shape even after years of use.
100% recycled – but more efficient than "new"
Unlike traditional nylons, ECOPAK™ is made completely from recycled polyester. Each yard of fabric recycles approximately ten plastic bottles and saves CO₂ emissions during production. The result is a material that combines sustainability and top performance without compromises.
Technology that makes sense
ECOPAK™ is constructed using multi-ply lamination technology, thanks to which the layers behave as one solid unit. Compared to ordinary fabrics, it does not sag, does not loosen in stressed areas, and does not absorb water. It also shows high resistance to UV radiation, so colors do not fade and the material maintains its appearance and functionality over time.
Why backpacks made from ECOPAK are more expensive
Production from ECOPAK is more demanding: the material is stiffer, requires experienced seamstresses and precise processing to keep the lamination intact. This means more time, precise work, and higher costs. The reward, however, is a backpack that lasts for years, protects your belongings, and at the same time reduces the impact on the planet. You pay for technology, durability, handcraft, and honesty.
Practical example: Roku Durable Pro 20L – Black Knight
Our Roku Durable Pro line uses ECOPAK™ 400D. It combines minimalist urban design with the durability of outdoor gear – water-resistant elements, precise stitching, and Czech production. Check out the model:

A backpack that makes sense
Batohiro backpacks made from ECOPAK™ are not just a design accessory. They are proof that a functional product can be sustainable, durable, and made in the Czech Republic from materials that make sense. ECOPAK™ combines the best of outdoor technology and conscientious design. We believe this is the future of backpacks.
